Rose Hip Oil: A Soothing Product for Eczema

by Martha Fitzharris

Eczema is a form of dermatitis that is commonly characterized by itching, dryness, redness and swelling. If this condition is left untreated or is severe, then it can lead to crusting, blistering, and eventually bleeding. This is precisely why you should treat this type of rash in an adequate and timely fashion.

Eczema doesn't actually have a cure so whichever treatment option you choose make sure that it's right for your skin and that you are consistent with its application. Antihistimines, corticosteroids and immunodepressors are all used to treat eczema.

You can also adopt a dry skin care to protect your skin from producing rashes. This option is quite simple to implement. Simply incorporate a good moisturizer to your daily routine and reapply it as often as needed.

One of the best moisturizers you can try is rose hip oil. This natural oil is extracted from the rose hips of a rose bush called the Rosa moschata bush. Its quick absorption allows for an instant moisturizing effect.

Rose hip oil has high levels of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and essential fatty acids. It also has a pH of 5.1 which makes it very compatible and safe for human skin.

The Vitamin A, present in rose hip oil, is vital for healthy skin. It helps delay photoaging and helps promote cell regeneration and the production of collagen and elastin levels. Vitamin C, on the other hand, is a great antioxidant that helps repair damaged skin.

Essential fatty acids (also known as omega-3 and omega-6) are vital to the production of prostaglandins. These components are hormone-like substances that regulate certain bodily functions such as inflammation, pain and swelling. In fact, a lack of these fatty acids in your diet can actually trigger eczema.

Rose hip oil can help relieve most of the symptoms that are associated with eczema. It can help reduce swelling and help eliminate dry patches of skin. As a matter of fact, some people that have used this type of product have noticed that it helps calm the itching sensation that accompanies this type of rash.

This natural oil has also been used to help treat seborrhoeic dermatitis in children, atopic eczema, venous eczema, discoid eczema and irritant, contact dermatitis. It is also a very effective when used to treat normal dry skin and other types of rashes.
